| | On the way back home from LA, I realized something as I looked out the airplane window at night. As eerie as it is, human technology is quite amazing. From high above, city lights look almost like Halloween all over again. Like a giant lit up pumpkin, it's really quite an amazing thing to see. It might be true that all the lights we have in the city really do block out the stars, but I don't think we give the city lights enough credit for their own beauty. When we were flying over San Jose, I thought it was the most beautiful thing that I've ever seen in my life. For miles and miles, the city glowed with its orange street lights. It made me wonder, what else am I missing out there? If I didn't notice the simple beauty of the street lights that I see everyday, imagine all the things I'm really missing. Makes me want to just slow life down even more, take some time to really smell the flowers in a sense.
On top of that, I think I'll start putting aside an hour a day to just read. My English Professor once said that reading is a dying art. I think he's right. In today's world, who has time to sit down and enjoy a book? In fact, how many author's can say they write a book for the joy of making a good story instead of the amount of money they'd bring in? Settling down in front of the fireplace as the weather gets colder with a good book...now that's a really nice way to spend a day no? Makes playing games and watching tv seem obsolete...it's a shame that things are the other way around.
Life is hard. Sometimes we just need a little time to leave it all behind. I think I'll start by opening a book.
